Learn the History of the Poker Game for Your Gambling Future
There is a big debate in the origins of the poker game as many say that it is very similar to the Persian or Iranian game called as nas that might have been learned by some French people who have settled down in New Orleans upon encountering some Persian sailors. Of course, the name of the game has come from the French word, "poque", which was passed on from the German word pochen which means to knock. The origins are really not clear however, it shares some ancestry with the game of Primero, a game played in the Renaissance period, and also the French game Brelan.
The British then adapted the game which was in the earlier days called bragg, or brag, a clear descendant from the French game Brelan; which then added the concept of bluffing an opponent. It is most certainly very possible that so many various earlier games have influenced and developed poker into what it is today.
The game was being played since 1829 in New Orleans with a twenty card deck, and usually with four players wagering on whose hand was the highest one and most valuable. The game eventually spread from New Orleans to the rest of North America via the Mississippi wherein gambling was one of the most common pastimes, especially for sailors. From the Mississippi Delta, all the way to the west, the popularity of the game spread at a time when there was a gold rush in America. Soon after that, there came the full fifty two card English deck of cards which was then used. Eventually, the concept of the "flush" poker hand then arose.
At the time of the Civil War in America, there were many further additions that were done to the poker game, making it evolve into anew! Certain additions to the game like the variant, draw poker and stud poker came into existence; so too, did the concept of the "straight" poker hand. Many more American changes and developments took place after that, among these were the wild card concept which came about during the year 1875, lowball, split-pot poker in the 1900s, and then eventually, community card poker games developed in the year 1925. The poker game then spread throughout the Americas, and then during the Second World War, it spread to various Asian countries via the American servicemen that were stationed there.
Many developments in the poker game were made over the years, making it the game that it is today.
